The IELTS has revealed the average overall band scores for Academic test takers for 2018. Taiwan owned the average score of 6.1, which gained 0.02 compared to the previous year. Taiwanese test-taker performance ranked 5th place in Asia, behind Malaysia(6.88), Philippines(6.81), Hong Kong(6.53), and Indonesia(6.38) ; prior to South Korea(5.99), Thailand(5.98), Vietnam(5.98), Japan(5.79) and China(5.78).
In the overall Asian rankings for 2018, South Korea has surpassed Thailand for the first time, while Vietnam was tied with Thailand for the first time. Taiwan has improved in listening, reading, especially showed an obvious growth of 0.11 in reading, which was the best performance for Taiwanese test takers. However, the average score of writing and speaking slightly deceased, yet writing remained the least well with the score of 5.55.
